Greenhouse Polythene
Greenhouse polythene or greenhouse plastic film, is a specialized material used to cover greenhouses. It is used for;
1. Creating a controlled environment: Greenhouse polythene acts as a barrier between the inside and outside environment. This allows farmers to control factors like temperature, humidity, and light exposure, creating an optimal environment for specific crops to thrive.
2. Extending the growing season: By regulating temperature and protecting plants from harsh weather conditions, greenhouse polythene allows for extending the growing season. This enables farmers to cultivate crops year-round, even in regions with colder climates.
3. Crop protection: Greenhouse polythene safeguards crops from various threats, including:
- Harsh weather: It shields plants from excessive rain, snow, strong winds, and hail.
- Pests and diseases: The barrier helps reduce the entry of insects, birds, and other potential carriers of diseases.
4. Light transmission: High-quality greenhouse plastic film is designed to allow for maximum light transmission, essential for plant growth and photosynthesis.
5. Cost-effective: Compared to glass, a traditional greenhouse covering material, greenhouse polythene is a more affordable option.
Types of Greenhouse Plastic Films
- UV open (Clear) – Perfect UV transmission. Nice for high altitudes and low-temperature climates. It can resist 2000 ppm Sulphur and 100 ppm Chlorite.
- IR UV block (Yellow) – Perfect UV blocking. Nice for high altitudes and low-temperature climates. Has anti-drip and anti-fog qualifications. It can resist 2000 ppm Sulphur and 100 ppm Chlorite.
- Nickel UV Block (Milky) – Perfect UV blocking. Nice for low altitude and high-temperature climates. It can resist up to 3000 ppm Sulphur and 150 ppm Chlorite.
